PLEASE LET'S KEEP THIS CIVIL! I KNOW THIS IS A TOUCHY SUBJECT BUT WOULD LIKE TO HEAR EVERYONE'S VIEWS AND OPINIONS ON THIS SUBJECT, SINCE IT EFFECTS OUR BREED NEW LAWS ARE TRYING TO PREVENT EAR CROPPING (AND TAIL DOCKING- BUT DOESN'T EFFECT OUR BREED.).

Here's my position:

I feel ear cropping should be a personal choice with all facts both pros and cons known by the individual planning to crop. I personaly feel that today's Danes are cropped soley for cosmetic purposes only. Yes, at one time they were cropped for a purpose (hunting) but they were cropped like today's "pitbull crop"! They took the ear way down for the safty of the animal. Today's crop is done soley for the "look" of the Dane and no other reason.

In Germany it is illegal to "mutilate" your dog.  Words like that certainly put a different slant on it.  I wish judges weren't prejudiced in favor of cropped ears--since the standard says natural is allowed, a good judge should be able to look past the ears and see the entire dog.  I'm a little sensitive since folks have asked that question (Are his ears done?) and expressed disappointment before they even seen my pup.  I guess just getting out there in the ring will be the biggest help in making it seem more natural and familiar...
